One Installation, Many Domains

Anyone managing multiple websites through a WordPress Multisite network knows the problem: by default, all websites in the network share the same primary domain – recognisable by subdirectories or subdomains.
For many projects, this is sufficient. But as soon as a single website is meant to stand as an independent offering – with its own domain name, its own brand identity, its own marketing – this quickly becomes a limitation.

Onartline Multisite Domain Mapping solves this problem: every website in your network can be given its own, individual domain, without any manual code adjustments or complicated server configuration.

What the plugin can do

  • Domain mapping via Site ID. Every website in the network can be linked to its own domain, changed, or unmapped via the Site ID assigned by WordPress – directly through the network admin, without any database or code intervention.
  • Automatic HTTPS. As soon as a domain is mapped, the plugin ensures that all requests are automatically served over a secure HTTPS connection – provided a valid SSL certificate is already in place on the server.
  • SEO-friendly 301 redirects. Insecure HTTP requests are automatically redirected to the secure HTTPS version. If visitors access a non-primary but mapped domain, they are consistently directed to your designated main domain – avoiding duplicate content for search engines.
  • Management by site administrators. Optionally, the Super Admin can allow individual site administrators to manage their own domain settings, without needing to access the network admin every time.
  • Automated background maintenance. An hourly, network-wide cron job cleans up expired login tokens and checks all stored domain mappings for accessibility.
  • Object cache compatibility. The plugin works with common object cache solutions such as Redis or Memcached – particularly noticeable in networks with many mapped domains.

Who this plugin is suited for

Whether it’s an agency managing multiple client projects, an SME with several related websites (main site, locations, product landing pages, shop), or a brand with multiple language or country versions – wherever several websites share a common technical foundation but each should appear under its own domain, domain mapping shows its strengths.
